Man Charged With Parklea Prison Murder: NSW Police

Detectives have charged a man with murder after a body was found in a correctional facility in Parklea.

Just before 9.30am yesterday (Sunday 17 March 2024), police were called to a correctional facility at Parklea, after reports an inmate had been found unresponsive in a cell.

The man was treated by corrective services officers until the arrival of paramedics; however, the man was declared deceased. He is yet to be formally identified.

Officers from Riverstone Police Area Command established a crime scene and commenced an investigation assisted by the State Crime Command's Homicide Squad.

About 2.30pm, a 20-year-old inmate was arrested and conveyed to Riverstone Police Station where he was charged with murder.

He has been refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Monday 18 March 2024).
