Forte has awarded nearly 5 million SEK to a research project at Karolinska Institutet and Södersjukhuset that will develop and evaluate Sweden's colorectal cancer screening programme.
The project is led by Johannes Blom , associate professor in the cancer prevention and screening research group, and is the first major research grant in the field of screening in collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and the University of California, Berkeley.
By combining Swedish screening and registry data with modern causal inference methods, the research group will study how the screening programme can be optimised while using healthcare resources more efficiently.
In the current Forte call, only 71 of 1,111 applications (6.4 per cent) were awarded funding.
