Man charged with seventeen property and assault offences in Liverpool

A man has been charged following investigations into alleged property and assault offences in south west Sydney, NSW Police say.

Police will allege that about midday on Wednesday yesterday, a man attended a major shopping centre in Liverpool and stole a handbag from a woman shopper. He then allegedly went to a nearby charity store and stole clothing.

The following day, the man allegedly approached a woman in the car park of a major shopping centre in Liverpool and became aggressive to her. The woman’s husband intervened and the man allegedly stuck the man in the face.

Police from Liverpool Local Area Command commenced investigations into both incidents.

Yesterday today, officers located the man in Forbes Street at Warwick Farm. The man allegedly resisted attempts to arrest him and kicked a police officer several times.

The 46-year-old man was searched on his arrest and officers allegedly located stolen property, prohibited drugs, housebreaking implements and a knife on his person.

He was taken to Liverpool Police Station and charged. While in custody, the man allegedly destroyed a mattress in his cell and assaulted another police officer.

The man was charged with seventeen offences including:

- Steal from person;

- Common assault (x2);

- Assault police (x2);

- Resist arrest;

- Larceny;

- Shoplifting;

- Receiving;

- Malicious damage;

- Goods in custody (x4);

- Possess housebreaking implements;

- Possess knife in public place; and

- Possess prohibited drug.

He was refused bail to appear before Liverpool Local Court today tomorrow.
