Man charged with sexual assault of teenager at shopping centre in Hornsby

An elderly man has been charged with the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl at a shopping centre at Hornsby yesterday, NSW Police say.

Just before 11am today, a 14-year-old girl was shopping in a discount store within the complex on the Pacific Highway, when she was approached by an unknown 81-year-old man.

The man allegedly stroked her hair and tried to kiss her, before she left the store and went to a nearby toilet.

It will be alleged the man followed her to the toilets, where he sexually assaulted her.

Afterwards, the man left and the girl immediately notified security guards of the incident.

Police from Kuring Gai Local Area Command were alerted and arrested the man a short time later at his home address in Waitara.

He was taken to Hornsby Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated indecent assault and two counts of aggravated sexual assault (victim under the age of 16 years).

The man was refused bail to appear before Hornsby Local Court tomorrow.
