Man charged; Woman remains critical after shooting, NSW

A man has been charged after a woman was shot in the state's south overnight.

Just after midnight (Saturday 19 January 2019), a 31-year-old woman was on a property on the Cobb Highway, Pretty Pine, north of Deniliquin, with five other persons, when she sustained a gun-shot wound to her head.

Emergency services attended and the woman was taken to Deniliquin Hospital, before being airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital where she remains in a critical condition.

Two crime scenes were established which were examined by specialist police.

A 32-year-old man, the woman's husband, was arrested by police from Murray River Police District, and taken to Deniliquin Police Station.

Four other witnesses, two men and two women, were also interviewed by police.

The 32-year-old man was later charged with fire firearm manner likely to injure persons/property, use unauthorised firearm and use firearm under the influence of alcohol.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Griffith Bail Court today where he was refused bail to appear at Griffith Local Court on Wednesday 23 January 2019.
