Man critical, after domestic assault, NSW

A man is in a critical condition in hospital after allegedly being assaulted by another man at Fairy Meadow yesterday, NSW Police say.

Officers from Wollongong Local Area Command were called to a home on Fairy Meadow Avenue, about 9.30pm today, following reports of a domestic violence related assault.

Police will allege a 27-year-old man allegedly assaulted a 58-year-old man by grabbing him around the throat following a verbal argument.

Both men are known to each other.

A 58-year-old man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Wollongong Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

A 27-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

He was taken to Wollongong Police Station where he was charged with two counts of common assault, and intentionally choke person with recklessness.

He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court today, Monday 23 October 2017.
