Man dies after Caroline Springs incident

Police will prepare a report for the Coroner following the death of a man at a property in Caroline Springs last night.

Emergency services were called to the St Georges Avenue address to reports of an assault and a man behaving erratically about 10.20pm on 7 July.

Police attempted to negotiate with the armed man before he retreated into the property.

A short time later a suspected gunshot was heard.

Police entered the property where they located the 60-year-old man deceased.

A 54-year-old woman who was also at the address at the time was physically uninjured.

The parties were known to each other.

Detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate the incident with oversight from Professional Standards Command, as per standard practice when a person dies in police presence.
