Man dies after motorcycle crash on M1 at Chinderah

A man has died after a single vehicle motorcycle crash in the state's north today.

Just after 8am (Saturday 4 September 2021), emergency services responded to reports a motorcycle had crashed into a median strip on the M1 Pacific Motorway at Chinderah, about 20km south of Tweed Heads.

Officers from Tweed-Byron Police District attended and found the rider, a man aged in his 20s, with critical injuries.

He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, but died at the scene. The man is yet to be formally identified.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is underway.

Local traffic diversions are in place on the M1 at Chinderah and motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible. Check www.livetraffic.com prior to travel.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
