Man Dies After Surf Rescue at Ballina

A man has died in hospital after being pulled from the surf at Ballina on Friday morning.

About 10.20am on Friday 6 March 2026, emergency services were called to Lighthouse Beach at East Ballina.

At the scene, police were told a swimmer had been pulled from the water by members of the public and was unresponsive.

Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics commenced CPR on the 76-year-old man before he was taken to Lismore Base Hospital in a critical condition.

Police attached to Richmond Police District have since been notified that the man died in hospital last night (Sunday 8 March 2026).
