Man Dies in Ute Crash, Fire West of Corowa

A man has died and a second man has been injured when their ute crashed 20km west of Corowa in southern NSW overnight.

Emergency services were called to Spring Drive at Mulwala, about 9.50pm yesterday (Thursday 29 January 2026), after the ute left the road and struck a fence.

The crash set surrounding grassland alight, which attracted the attention of passing motorists.

A man, believed to be a passenger, died at the scene.

A second man was seen lying near the wreckage surrounded by fire and he was dragged to safety by the witnesses.

The man, aged 28, has been airlifted to Prince Albert Hospital, Melbourne, with non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation has commenced by officers attached to Murray River Police District, assisted by the Crash Investigation Unit.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
