Man extradited from Northern Territory over indecent assaults of girl

A man will appear in court today after being extradited from the Northern Territory over the alleged aggravated indecent assaults of a girl in the Illawarra region.

Last month, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation after reports a 13-year-old girl had been indecently assaulted by a man who was known to her.

Following extensive inquires, a 48-year-old man was arrested by Northern Territory Police in a carpark at Alice Springs on Sunday (29 September 2019).

Strike force detectives travelled to the Northern Territory on Monday (30 September 2019), where they applied for and were granted the man's extradition to NSW at Alice Springs Local Court on Tuesday (1 October 2019).

The man was escorted by detectives on a flight to Sydney yesterday (Wednesday 2 October 2019), and taken to Mascot Police Station, where he was charged with three counts of indecent assault person under 16 years of age.

Police will allege in court that the man indecently assaulted the girl between December 2014 and January 2017 when she was aged between eight and 10.

He was refused bail to appear at Central Local Court today (Thursday 3 October 2019).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
