Man found with head injuries, NSW

Police have established Strike Force Levien after a man was found with serious head injuries in Wagga Wagga last night, NSW Police say.

About 10.40pm (Tuesday 23 October 2018), emergency services were called to Raye Street at Tolland, following reports a group of men were fighting.

When paramedics arrived, they located a 27-year-old man with significant head injuries.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital in a critical condition before being airlifted to St George Hospital, where is undergoing surgery.

Officers from Riverina Police District attended and conducted an extensive search of the area, however those involved were not located.

A crime scene was established, which will be examined by forensic police.

Officers from Riverina Police District and Southern Region Region Enforcement Squad have established Strike Force Levien to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Detectives are urging anyone with information or anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
