Man hospitalised following serious assault, in Merrylands

A man has been taken to hospital following a serious assault in Merrylands overnight.

About 8.45pm (Thursday 7 February 2019), police were called to Memorial Avenue, Merrylands, after reports of a brawl.

Officers attended and located an unresponsive 25-year-old Merrylands man, suffering a head injury and a suspected broken jaw.

The injured man was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition. His injuries are not considered life threatening.

Police have been told the man was injured during an altercation with a group of men who fled the scene before officers arrived.

Detectives from Cumberland Police Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

In an unrelated incident nearby, police arrested two men, aged in their 20s, who are currently assisting police with inquiries. Charges for hindering police are likely to be made.
