Man in court after carrying replica gun in public at Lake Macquarie

Police have charged a man after he allegedly walked down a street with a replica firearm in Lake Macquarie yesterday.

About 11.55am (Thursday 12 March 2020), police were called after reports a man carrying a firearm was seen walking on Bourke Street, Windale.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District searched the area and following inquiries attended a home on Takooma Way, Windale.

A 22-year-old man was allegedly found with a replica firearm.

He was arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station, where he was charged with possess unregistered firearm in public place and possess unauthorised firearm

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Belmont Local Court today (Friday 13 March 2020).
