Man in court after police officer knocked unconscious - Manly

A man is due to appear in court this morning charged after a police officer was knocked unconscious at Manly overnight.

Two officers were performing licensing checks at North Steyne about 10.30pm (Friday 22 January 2021), when they were approached by a man who allegedly began making threats.

Police allege the man then slapped one of the officers in the face, kicked him in the left knee then punched him to the left side of the head, knocking him unconscious.

The man allegedly tried to assault a second officer before running away.

The 45-year-old man was arrested nearby by officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command and was taken to Manly Police Station where he has been charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, and assault police officer in execution of duty.

He's been refused bail to appear in Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 23 January 2021).

The injured officer was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital where he's undergone scans and has been treated for the concussion and a knee injury. He is now recovering at home.
