Man in custody over Broadmeadow train station stabbing

A man is in police custody after another man was allegedly stabbed at a train station at Newcastle this morning.

Emergency services were called to Broadmeadow Train Station about 10.15am (Friday 14 April 2023), after reports a man had suffered a stab wound to his abdomen.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital, where he's reported to be in a stable condition.

Officers from Police Transport Command responded, deploying OC spray to effect the arrest of a second man outside the station.

That man has been taken to Mater Hospital where he remains under police guard.

A crime scene has been established by officers from Newcastle City Police District and an investigation is now underway into the circumstances surrounding this incident.
