Surf Coast Shire's Voices from Home project is set to culminate with a live community performance capturing echoes, imagery, sentiments and stories.

The community storytelling project invited people from hinterland to coast to share spoken and written memories and experiences expressing what home means to them.

Community members contributed their stories through a series of in-person workshops and online submissions, sharing memories, reflections and the things they value most about home.

The contributions reflect a range of personal experiences, from memories of growing up in the region and the reasons people have chosen to make Surf Coast Shire their home, to connections with the natural environment, local communities and the people and places that create a sense of belonging.

Award-winning performance artist Megan J. Riedl is curating the contributions for the live performance, which will be on Sunday 15 November.

Megan will be joined in the presentation by a number of local people who have refined material during a series of creative writing workshops and a one-day masterclass.

Deputy Mayor Tony Phelps thanked people who contributed their thoughts and memories as part of the project.

"I am sure they will combine into a vivid, eloquent and meaningful expression of what home means to people across Surf Coast Shire," Cr Phelps said.

"We look forward to the live performance and thank Megan for having shared her expertise and enthusiasm in bringing the contributions together, as well as leading the workshops."

Megan said the project has been rewarding.

"It has been really lovely to travel throughout the shire over the past few weeks," Megan said."It's such a privilege to meet local people and help them create stories about what makes this place such a special home to them.

"I'm very excited to bring them to life alongside some local creatives for our special performance gathering.

"This project has been a real delight."

The Voices from Home live community performance will be at 3pm on 15 November at Torquay Taphouse. There is no cost to attend.
