Council has secured $220,000 through the Victorian Government's 2026 Local Sports Infrastructure Fund to upgrade sports lighting at Wattle Glen War Memorial Park.

The funding will support improvements to sportsground lighting, helping create a safer and more accessible venue for local clubs and the broader community, particularly during the winter sporting season.

Mayor Cr Naomi Joiner welcomed the funding, saying the upgrade would increase opportunities for participation and extend the use of the popular community facility.

"Improved lighting means local clubs and teams can train and play safely during the evenings, particularly through the shorter days of winter," Cr Joiner said.

"Wattle Glen War Memorial Park is a valued community asset, and this investment will provide more flexibility for clubs, improve visibility and help meet growing demand for sporting facilities."

Located in Wilson Road, Wattle Glen War Memorial Park is home to Northern Eagles Soccer Club, Diamond Creek Soccer Club and the North Eltham Wanderers Cricket Club.

The reserve is also used by local schools and the wider community, including as a dog off-leash area when not booked for organised activities.

Works are expected to commence in 2027.
