Man in stolen car arrested at checkpoint

A man in a stolen car has been arrested while attempting to evade a checkpoint in Reservoir this morning.

Police were patrolling in Thomastown when they observed a stolen grey Subaru bearing no plates travelling at 160km/h on Edgars Road about 2am.

Officers followed the car towards Reservoir but lost sight of the stolen car as the driver had no headlights on.

Shortly after, the driver encountered a vehicle checkpoint on Mahoneys Road and attempted to perform a U-turn but became stuck on a median strip.

Officers approached the car and arrested a 34-year-old man who was then transported to hospital under police guard for an unrelated matter.

The Lalor man is expected to be charged with theft of motor vehicle, theft from motor vehicle and reckless conduct endangering life.
