Man marooned

Water Police officers were called out to North Geelong to make contact with a man who was marooned on a small island in Cowie Creek.

The man first came to police attention following reports he was seen with a torch loitering in the vicinity of an automotive business in an industrial estate, on Thompsons Road, just before 2am.

When local police arrived, the man ran from the scene towards Cowie Creek and waded into the water.

As local police along with the Dog Squad cordoned off the area the man was spotted by the Air Wing on a small island in the middle of the creek and wetlands area.

Repeated requests by police for the man to come back to shore went unanswered so the Water Police were called in to check on the man's welfare.

Water Police members safety rescued the 28-year-old man, who was found to have a medical condition.

He was checked over by ambulance paramedics on scene.

Local police have determined there was no criminality involved.
