A man reported missing 12 years ago has been located after being arrested at Parramatta yesterday.
In February 2007, a then 28-year-old Chinese National was reported missing to Sydney City Police Area Command, after losing contact with his family in China since May 2004.
The man had been studying in Australia since May 2003.
Despite extensive investigations at the time and over the years, the man was not located.
About 3pm (Saturday 23 November 2019), police were called to a store at a Parramatta shopping centre, after a man was allegedly caught shoplifting.
Officers from Parramatta Police Area Command established the man's identity after fraudulent identification was initially produced, and the 40-year-old was arrested.
He was taken to Parramatta Police Station, and detectives from Sydney City Police Area Command confirmed the man to be the same person as that reported missing.
The man was issued a Criminal Infringement Notice for shoplifting and has been referred to the Department of Home Affairs.
