Man Rescued After 13-Hour Southern Highlands Operation

A man has been taken to hospital after a 13-hour operation to rescue him from the base of a waterfall in the Southern Highlands

Emergency services were called to Funnels Creek Waterfall at Tallong, 40km east of Goulburn, about 2pm yesterday (Saturday 1 June 2025), responding to reports a man had fallen 4m onto rocks at the base of the waterfall.

Officers attached to The Hume Police District, Police Rescue, NSW Ambulance paramedics, and members of the State Emergency Service (SES), arrived to find a 24-year-old man conscious but suffering injuries to his dead, right shoulder and left ankle.

When it was determined the man couldn't be winched out by helicopter, an operation commenced to retrieve the man by vertical rope lift.

A South Care helicopter transported a medical crew to the scene to stabilise the man before the retrieval operation commenced involving police, paramedics and SES members.

About 3am (Sunday 1 June 2025), the man was successfully extricated and has now been taken by road ambulance to Goulburn Base Hospital in a stable condition.

Police have been told the man was with a group of friends who were climbing the 8m ledge before jumping into a rockpool.
