Man seriously injured; two charged, NSW

Police have charged two men after another man was found with serious head injuries following a fight in Wagga Wagga, NSW Police say.

About 10.40pm (Tuesday 23 October 2018), emergency services were called to Raye Street at Tolland, following reports a group of men were fighting.

When paramedics arrived, they located a 27-year-old man with head injuries.

He was taken to Wagga Wagga Rural Referral Hospital before being airlifted to St George Hospital, where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

Officers from Riverina Police District attended and established a crime scene, which was examined by forensic police.

Strike Force Levien was established, comprising of officers from Riverina Police District and Southern Region Region Enforcement Squad to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, detectives arrested two men – aged 24 and 39 – about 5.30pm yesterday (Wednesday 24 October 2018).

The 24-year-old man was charged with common assault, and affray.

He appeared at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Thursday 25 October 2018), where he was refused bail to reappear at the same court on Wednesday 7 November 2018.

The 39-year-old man was charged with affray, common assault, and malicious damage.

He appeared at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Thursday 25 October 2018), where he was granted conditional bail to reappear at the same court on Wednesday 7 November 2018.

Inquiries under Strike Force Levien are continuing.
