Man sprayed with flammable liquid; another man charged at Maitland

A man has been charged with several assault offences, after an alleged confrontation at Maitland.

Around 5pm yesterday (Wednesday 17 April 2019), a group of people were at a hotel on High Street, Maitland.

It's alleged a 30-year-old man threatened a male resident of the hotel, before leaving the scene.

He later returned to the premises with two small containers, believed to contain a flammable liquid.

The 30-year-old then allegedly sprayed the male resident with the container's contents and proceeded to threaten the man before assaulting him.

Officers from the Port-Stephens Hunter Police District were called to the scene and arrested the 30-year-old.

He was taken to Maitland Police Station where he was charged with armed with intent to commit indictable offence, two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.

He was refused bail to appear at Maitland Local Court today (Thursday 18 April 2019).
