Man to be charged after West Melbourne collision

Officers from Melbourne Highway Patrol have identified the driver of a hit-run collision in West Melbourne this afternoon.

The 36-year-old Taylors Lakes man was located by officers in Ardeer following the collision that occurred Peel Street near the intersection of Victoria Street.

He was interviewed in relation to the collision and released from custody.

The man is expected to be charged on summons with unlicensed driving, fail to give way to tram, fail to give name and address and fail to render assistance.

The charges follow an alleged hit-run collision after a gold Nissan sedan was travelling south on Peel Street about 3.30pm.

The car struck a tram before the driver allegedly fled the scene on foot.

No one on the tram sustained injuries as a result of the collision.
