Man to face court over child approach - Rooty Hill

A man will appear in court today charged with attempting to procure a young girl for sexual purposes in Sydney's west.

About 4pm yesterday (Friday 3 September 2021), it will be alleged by police that a 14-year-old girl was seated at a bench on North Parade, outside the entrance to Rooty Hill Railway Station, when a man not known to her sat beside her.

He has engaged in an unprompted conversation with her of a sexual and graphic nature.

A witness observed the actions of the man and challenged him. The man has walked from the scene onto the main concourse of Rooty Hill Railway Station.

Police were contacted and officers from the Police Transport Command located the man on the concourse of Rooty Hill Railway Station.

The 31-year-old man from Whalan was arrested and taken to Mount Druitt Police Station and charged with procure child for unlawful sexual activity, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm, not wear fitted face covering public transport and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at Parrmatta Local Court today (Saturday 4 September 2021).
