Man To Face Court Over Pursuit Near Kingscliff

A man will face court today after an alleged pursuit in the Northern Rivers last year.

About 6.40pm on Thursday 18 December 2025, officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command attempted to stop an SUV on the Pacific Highway at Tanglewood – about 10km south of Kingscliff – due to the manner of driving.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated.

The pursuit continued along Clothiers Creek Road when near the intersection of Sliprails Road police briefly lost sight of the vehicle.

A short time later, police came across the vehicle after it had crashed into a tree.

Fire and Rescue NSW firefighters, NSW Ambulance paramedics, and VRA NSW members attended and removed the driver from the car.

The 23-year-old man was treated at the scene before being taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital; he was released in January.

Police will allege blood analysis returned a positive reading of 0.054.

On Wednesday 27 May 2026, the man was served with a court attendance notice for four offences,

• Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously

• Drive with low-range PCA

• Not stop at/before stop line/stop sign

• Exceed speed

He is due to appear at Tweed Heads Local Court later today (Monday 29 June 2026).

A critical incident team from Richmond Police District also commenced an investigation into the circumstances of the police involvement in the incident. The investigation will be reviewed by the Professional Standards Command and oversighted by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC).
