Margaret River Region Bushfire

Detectives from Strike Force Vulcan are seeking information regarding a bushfire in the Margaret River region, which was reported to authorities on Wednesday 8 December 2021.
To date the fire has burnt about 5,500 hectares of land and there is a significant fire response being led by personnel from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services and the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (Parks and Wildlife Service).
Strike Force Vulcan detectives have been deployed to assist local resources with the investigation into the cause of the fire.
Based on an initial assessment of the fire scene it is believed the fire was deliberately lit, and may have been ignited near Mammoth Cave. Mammoth Cave is accessed via Caves Road and is near the border of Boranup and Forest Grove suburbs.
Detectives would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the vicinity of Mammoth Cave on Wednesday (8 December) or who has dash-cam or mobile phone vision of people or vehicles in the area at the time. Vision can be uploaded directly to Strike Force Vulcan via this link:
