Massive weekend for Covid vaccinations

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Health

More than 2,400 Tasmanians received a vaccination at the MAC01 Super Clinic over the weekend, bringing our total rate as at August 29 to 59.1 per cent of eligible Tasmanians having received a first dose, and 41.5 per cent now fully vaccinated.

This means we remain on target to achieve more than 63 per cent of the population getting their first dose of the vaccine by September 12 off the back of our six-week vaccination blitz.

Twenty nurses and 12 administrative staff worked at the MAC01 clinic over the weekend, delivering 2,416 first doses, with support from security staff and Rotary Tasmania Hobart-based clubs.

This was the biggest ever number of doses delivered in a community clinic over a weekend.

There have now been 443,001 COVID-19 vaccination doses administered in Tasmania.

Another Super Clinic is planned for Burnie on September 11 and 12 at the Burnie Arts and Function Centre, with appointments now available.

Our schools program is continuing across the state, with a clinic at Hobart College this week and Rosny College starting on September 9. The program will also move to the North and North-West, with more information available soon.

Vaccination clinics on the West Coast are also being finalised, with Queenstown on September 9 and 10 at the Memorial Hall, Strahan on September 16 and 17 at the Golf Club, and Zeehan the week after.

And from yesterday, 16 to 29-year-olds are now eligible for a Pfizer vaccination in Tasmania.

Vaccination remains one of the best ways to protect yourself, your family and the community.

I'd like to thank Tasmanians for rolling up their sleeves, as we continue to lead the nation in our vaccination effort.

This has been a massive logistical exercise and I'd also like to thank and commend the staff who are working hard to deliver this unprecedented health program.

The continuing situation on the mainland is an important reminder that we must keep this effort going: Don't wait. Vaccinate.
