Masterplan to guide cemetery's expansion

Natural burial sites, mausoleum vaults and lawn graves with plaques set around trees will be incorporated into the expanded Forest View Cemetery.

Located on Foster Rd at the rear of the Forest Gardens estate in Mount Sheridan, the current cemetery is nearing capacity with only about 300 burial sites remaining.

In 2014, Council purchased an additional parcel of land on the southern side of the cemetery to allow for the future expansion.

The newly endorsed Forest View Cemetery Masterplan focuses on this parcel of land, with the aim of maximising the use of available space using contemporary designs and methods to cater for the community's needs over the 30 years.

The masterplan will establish more than 2,800 additional adult burial sites, and incorporates options not previously offered at the cemetery, including headstones and natural burial sites.

It also provides for additional features within pre-established areas of the cemetery, including a sheltered columbarium area, additional burial sites and an area for children to visit while parents visit the cemetery.
