Mayor And Deputy Mayor Elected For One-year Term

West Ward Councillor Kate Kendall has been elected as Mayor for a one-year-term by her fellow Councillors, following a scheduled Council meeting held in Gisborne today.

East Ward Councillor Cassy Borthwick has been elected as Deputy Mayor for the same period, marking the second appointment of both roles within this current four-year Councillor term.

Mayor Kendall said: "Following a year of listening and action in my role as a Councillor and as Deputy Mayor, I'm really pleased to be given the opportunity to lead as Mayor for the coming year. I'd like to thank my fellow Councillors for their vote of confidence in me to take on this important role."

"I look forward to continuing to work closely with my fellow Councillors, Council staff and the community. I'm excited to genuinely engage across platforms and across generations to bring everyone into the local government process. I aim to build trust, transparency and tangible progress on priorities for the benefit of all ratepayers and residents of our amazing shire."

Deputy Mayor Borthwick said: "Thank you to my fellow Councillors for the support and confidence in my ability to take on the role of Deputy Mayor. I look forward to continuing to work productively with Mayor Kendall, Councillors, Council staff and the wider community."

"In my first year as a Councillor, I've eagerly learnt the ins and outs of the role, listened intently to residents, and stood for what I believed in. As Deputy Mayor, I'll continue to build on these initial stepping stones and advocate strongly on behalf of my community to action meaningful change."
