Helping Local Businesses Navigate Tendering
Community members often ask why the Council doesn't engage more local tradies and contractors. The answer is simple – we prefer to. However strict procurement rules mean we must follow a formal process when selecting suppliers.
A common issue is that local businesses submit only a quote, without the required tender documents. Unfortunately, without these details, we legally cannot consider their submission – no matter how good their work or reputation.
In the past, a quote and a handshake may have been enough. But today's procurement regulations demand more. And the truth is, many small businesses simply don't know where to start or how to put the required documentation together.
The City of Greater Bendigo is facing similar challenges and is now offering free workshops to help small and medium-sized businesses understand the tendering process. These sessions will cover how procurement works, how to join the vendor panel, and how to prepare stronger, more competitive submissions. Upcoming local projects will also be discussed.
These workshops will be just as valuable for businesses in our Shire, as our processes closely align.
Workshop Details:
Session 1: Tuesday 22 July, 6–7pm
Session 2: Thursday 24 July, 3–4pm

In other news, following joint advocacy by local councils the State Government has announced a new contact centre for the expanded Emergency Services Volunteer Fund (ESVF). Central Goldfields Shire will also receive an additional $50,000 in 2025–26 to help administer the program.
Discussions about ESVF are ongoing. We'll share more details as they become available.
