Planning for a Strong, Sustainable Future

At last week's Council Meeting, we endorsed two critical strategic documents which are essential to shape the future of our Shire – the Draft Land Use Framework Plan and the Draft Urban Residential Land Opportunity Study – www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/landuseframeworkplan

These separate pieces of work are not just planning exercises; they are essential foundations to support population growth and long-term sustainability in Central Goldfields.

The Draft Land Use Framework Plan will soon go out for public consultation, and I encourage every resident to have their say. It outlines how we manage land use into the future – ensuring we have space for homes, jobs, and recreation, while protecting the things we value most about our communities.

The Draft Urban Residential Land Opportunity Study will guide how we manage growth in rural residential areas, ensuring development happens in the right places and with the right infrastructure.

These initiatives send a strong message to developers, entrepreneurs, industries and businesses: Central Goldfields is ready for investment. We're already ahead of many neighbouring municipalities when it comes to infrastructure. With four major shopping outlets, a variety of quality takeaways, and an impressive selection of high-quality restaurants and bistros offering exceptional food and ambience.

We also have a brand-new hospital with specialist services, a world-recognised Central Goldfields Art Gallery, and our stunning 1890-built Maryborough Railway Station – a tourism icon in its own right.

And yes – there's still gold in the ground!

With careful planning and community input, we can ensure that the Central Goldfields continues to thrive – balancing progress with preservation.

To be the place to eat, sleep, work and play.
