Indigo Shire Mayor, Jenny O'Connor has expressed her sadness and deepest condolences to family and friends of former CEO Gerry Smith who passed away this morning.
"On behalf of Councillors, the Executive Management Team and all staff, we are all shocked and saddened at the news of Gerry's passing following a battle with cancer," Cr O'Connor said.
"During his time at Indigo Shire from 2014 to 2017, he was instrumental in improving governance, systems and processes. But among his greatest achievements was the securing of a $5.2M government grant to build the Beechworth to Osbornes Flat Rail Trail."
"Gerry was a great advocate for Indigo Shire and its people, and his legacy will be long remembered and appreciated. He was a man of integrity, a kind and decent man, and a much loved family man and work colleague."
