Consultation on the Northern Suburbs Rapid Bus Project is now open.
While the project is still in the planning and assessment stage, initial plans including proposed route and station locations have been identified for further investigation.
Feedback will be considered alongside technical, environmental and economic analysis as the report is developed ready for government consideration later this year.
Rapid buses would use a combination of existing roads, priority bus lanes and the unused rail corridor between the city and Claremont.
There are 12 proposed stations at locations including New Town, Moonah, Glenorchy and Berriedale.
Services would run every 10 minutes at peak times and every 30 minutes off-peak.
Infrastructure and Transport Minister, Kerry Vincent, said our Government is planning for Tasmania's future.
"We want to hear from people across the northern suburbs to help us test the proposal properly and make sure we consider the issues that matter locally," Minister Vincent said.
"All of the studies and analysis show that a rapid bus network is the best long-term option for Greater Hobart but we're making sure we get the plan right before proceeding with such a significant investment."
Feedback can be provided by an online survey, community drop-in sessions and public information displays.
Consultation closes on 9 October 2026.
This planning is jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian governments under the Hobart Public Transport Infrastructure Planning project.
Progressing the project remains subject to further consideration, approvals and funding.
