Mayor slams theft from Halo show

Townsville City Council has doubled down the security at the highly popular Halo light and sound show in Queens Gardens after the theft of a large light that forms part of the Light Walk.

Townsville Mayor Cr Jenny Hill today lashed out the theft and called on the thief to return the light.

"Halo has been a hugely successful public event and it's disgraceful that someone would steal from what is a world-class community event," Cr Hill said.

"Thousands of people have been enjoying Halo and it's very disappointing that someone who has no regard for the community would do this.

"Fortunately, Council had a replacement light, so the show goes on, but I'm calling on whoever stole the light to return it.

"The light is computer operated and requires software so it is highly unlikely they would be able to use it effectively. I want the culprit to give it back."

Council staff are actively working with the police over the theft and CCTV footage is currently being reviewed.
