Mayor Supports Petition To Dredge Lake Conjola

Mayor of Shoalhaven, Patricia White has welcomed the actions of Member for South Coast, Liza Butler, to gain NSW Government approval to dredge the ebb channel at Lake Conjola to reduce flooding of nearby properties.

Lake Conjola is an Intermittently Closed and Open Lake/Lagoon (ICOLL) with the entrance located on NSW Crown Land and managed in accordance with NSW Government legislation and procedures.

In 2011, Council stopped dredging the channel to the lake in accordance with the Crown Land's Licence conditions.

"At that time, the community signed off on temporary practices that have been in place for the last 15 years as Council has been unable to gain approval from state government agencies to dredge the ebb channel on an ongoing basis," Cr White said.

"We are happy to continue to work with Ms Butler and the relevant state government agencies toward a solution to alleviate the concerns of residents about flooding in the area," she said.

"I encourage everyone to sign the petition launched by the state member to advocate for the dredging of the lake entrance.

The petition is available on MP Liza Butler's website: Lake Conjola Dredging.
