City of Casey Mayor Cr Stefan Koomen and his family have welcomed a new addition to the family. On Christmas Eve, Cr Koomen adopted Roger the cat from The Lost Dogs' Home in Cranbourne West, highlighting the importance of giving abandoned animals a second chance.
Cr Koomen said: "This time of year is all about kindness and compassion. Adopting a pet is a wonderful way to bring joy into your home, while supporting the incredible work of local animal shelters."
In 2025, The Lost Dogs' Home helped thousands of animals find safety, health and love. Across its two shelters in Cranbourne West and North Melbourne, the Home cared for around 18,600 animals, including 12,000 cats, 6,000 dogs and 300 other animals. Volunteers went on 17,000 dog walks, gave out over 26,000 toys and treats, reunited over 3,000 lost pets with their families, and celebrated nearly 8,000 adoptions.
