A Logan City Council delegation will visit China to strengthen relationships with our sister cities (Suzhou City and Xuhui District) and push trade and investment opportunities in Logan.
The five-day 2019 Mayoral Mission will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Logan-Suzhou Sister City Relationship, the 5th anniversary of signing an Economic Friendship Agreement with Suzhou General Chamber of Commerce and the 5th anniversary of signing an Economic Friendship Agreement with Xuhui District.
The June 10-14 delegation will also provide an opportunity for the delegation to promote the City of Logan as an investment and business location at meetings in Suzhou, Xuhui and in Shanghai.
"We place great value on the relationships we have with our sister cities," City of Logan Acting Mayor Cherie Dalley said.
"We've established meaningful ties with Suzhou City and Xuhui District and this mission is an opportunity to strengthen our relationships.
"We will be building on our existing cultural relationships to further grow economic opportunities including vital investment and trade in Logan.
"We can't limit ourselves to our own backyard when seeking further investment for our city.
"We need to show the world that the City of Logan is a great place to invest in or establish trade links."
Logan's relationship with Suzhou is significant as it is one of China's largest regional cities and has a reputation for international trade and commerce.
Suzhou is a major economic centre and Logan's delegation will reciprocate the several Suzhou delegations that have visited our city.
"We are very proud and supportive of our Chinese community in Logan, one of 217 cultures which enrich our social and economic fabric," Cr Dalley said.
"The 10th anniversary of the Logan-Suzhou Sister City relationship is significant for both cities and it is important to recognise this milestone."
Logan's Global Connections Strategy is designed to assist council in achieving both economic and cultural outcomes for the city, and the anticipated $30,000 cost is covered by the strategy's existing budget.
Overseas missions, including visiting our Sister Cities, are key to building networks that create cultural exchange and trade and investment opportunities.
