  • Local civil construction company MMM WA awarded contract, supporting local jobs
  • The McGowan Government has awarded a $4.3 million contract to local civil construction company MMM WA Pty Ltd to undertake remediation work along the Rivervale foreshore.

Investigations by the Western Australian Planning Commission found preventative works to stabilise and reinforce the foreshore near Tanunda Drive are a priority, following a 2012 landslide and subsequent engineering report.

A limestone retaining structure will be built to reduce the incline of the slope, helping to stabilise the foreshore and protect the steep embankment from deterioration over time.

An important element of the project is revegetation of the area with native flora, which will both enhance the visual appeal of the embankment and contribute to its integrity over time.

MMM WA is a local contractor with experience in this specialised area of marine and civil construction, having successfully undertaken many similar projects along the environmentally sensitive Swan River foreshore.

A community information session will be held on Wednesday September 11. Find out more information here: https://www.dplh.wa.gov.au/tanunda-drive-rivervale

As stated by Planning Minister Rita Saffioti:

"Perth is renowned for its outdoor lifestyle and our beautiful Swan River foreshore is used year-round by residents and visitors alike.

"The embankment's remediation provides insurance into the future for the protection of nearby public and private assets.

"These improvements will strengthen and safeguard this section of Rivervale foreshore so it can continue to be enjoyed safely for years to come.

"It is pleasing to see this contract awarded to a WA-owned company, supporting local jobs and growth."

As stated by Belmont MLA Cassie Rowe:

"The Swan River is an iconic feature in Rivervale and is a popular place for local residents to visit.

"The planned works will make it safer, and the restoration of the foreshore with more native vegetation will ensure this important amenity remains enjoyable for the local community in the years to come."
