Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding a fatal collision in Springvale yesterday afternoon.
It's understood a pedestrian was crossing the Princes Highway, near Smith Street, when she was struck by a vehicle travelling northbound shortly after 2pm.
The pedestrian, an 85-year-old Springvale woman, died at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a 78-year-old Wheelers Hill man, stopped to render assistance.
An investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
