Meet n Eat pop-up event in Wollongong to bring jobs directly to local youth on Monday

Apprenticeship Careers Australia (ACA), the nation’s premium employer of apprenticeships and trainees, is hitting the streets of Wollongong on Monday to bring jobs directly to local youth at a ‘Meet ‘n’ Eat’ event.

The pop-up event will be run in partnership with Skillsroad, Australia’s number one destination for entry level jobs are careers advice, and is structured in a ‘speed-dating’ interview format. The Wollongong event will take place at popular local restaurant, Rashay’s, and similar events will be run across NSW later in the month.

According to ACA General Manager, Luke Radford, the ‘Meet ‘n’ Eats’ are designed to engage young jobseekers on the spot, and directly connect them with real opportunities in the area in a unique and hassle-free environment.

“These events are about reimagining recruitment techniques for young jobseekers, and engaging them in places that they know and like – places they’d go to anyway,” says Mr Radford.

“Our on-the-spot interviews allow them to apply for an exciting apprenticeship or traineeship in a more comfortable and accessible context that takes away the pressure and nerves that can sometimes come with the traditional interview process.”

ACA will be interviewing for dozens of positions across a diverse range of apprenticeships and traineeships in NSW for both late-2018 and 2019 intakes - so youth can start working right away, or set themselves up for a role when they return from schoolies.

Currently, youth unemployment rates in Wollongong are at 11.3 percent - higher than the state average - and local employers are suffering under this skills shortage as they find it harder to retain the right staff to support their business.

It is for this reason that ACA and Skillsroad are bringing their innovative recruitment techniques to this area, in order to help kick start young jobseekers’ entry into the workforce.

Mr Radford says the ‘Meet ‘n’ Eat’ events are about showcasing the wide array of meaningful vocational positions that are available to young people in Wollongong, and to make it easy for them to find one.

“We want to help youth across Wollongong to seize great job opportunities, so we’re bringing the opportunities to them,” says Mr Radford.

“I strongly encourage all young people in the area to grab their resume, come down to these pop-up events and have a chat with our team.

“Our ACA Street Crew will also be there handing out free food and drinks and putting young people in the draw to win some awesome prizes at each event.”
