As part of the City of Casey's partnership with the Melbourne Football Club, Casey Fields is gearing up to host the Melbourne vs North Melbourne practice match on Friday 20th February, bringing elite AFL action close to home.
Now in its 16th year, Casey's long-standing partnership with Melbourne Football Club, continues to deliver meaningful, inclusive and community focused football and engagement opportunities for residents of all ages across the municipality.
City of Casey Mayor Stefan Koomen says the enduring partnership reflects Council's commitment to working alongside organisations that share its community values.
"Whether it's women's football, First Nations engagement, youth development or simply giving families access to live games and experiences, this partnership continues to make a real difference with opportunities that connect our community through sport. Council is proud of this long-standing partnership and the positive impact it continues to deliver to Casey residents".
Melbourne Football Club Chief Executive Officer, Paul Guerra says "There is always great anticipation for the first practice match of the year, so it is very exciting to be hosting this hit-out against North Melbourne at Casey Fields next week.
"Our 16-year partnership with the City of Casey is an important component of the club and we are proud to work with Mayor Stefan Koomen, CEO Glenn Patterson and their teams on continuing to find ways this connection can positively impact the community."
In addition to this month's practice match, a wide range of activities and programs will be delivered throughout the year, providing Casey residents of all ages with opportunities to get involved, including:
- Little Demons Day and MFC Junior Members Day
- From August to October, AFLW matches at Casey Fields
- Casey Community Round at the MCG
- Citizenship Ceremony held at Casey Fields
- Open AFL and AFLW Training Sessions where the community can watch the elite teams train
- Koori School Holiday Program
- CALD Women's Footy Program, delivered in conjunction with AFL Victoria. This program aims to encourage Women from CALD background to participate in the game.
