Melbourne lawyer, businessman and philanthropist Peter McMullin AM has been appointed the new Chair of the Melbourne Recital Centre, a renowned destination for dynamic live music experiences.
Minister for Creative Industries Colin Brooks today announced Mr McMullin's appointment which follows his extensive career across the public and private sectors and his significant leadership as a philanthropist and patron with a deep interest in education and the arts.
Mr McMullin is the current Chairman and Director of the McMullin Group, a private investment group, and has been President of the Confederation of Asia Pacific Chambers of Commerce and Industry since 2021.
A former Mayor of the City of Greater Geelong and former Deputy Mayor of the City of Melbourne, in 2019 Mr McMullin founded the Good Business Foundation which works to reduce inequality within, and between, countries across the globe.
Mr McMullin's extensive philanthropy includes supporting the Science Gallery Melbourne and backing the establishment of the world's first academic Centre dedicated to the issue of Statelessness at Melbourne University Law School, known as the Peter McMullin Centre on Statelessness.
A long supporter of the creative industries, Mr McMullin has also held significant Board roles at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Geelong Performing Arts Centre Trust, Geelong Art Gallery, Museums Board of Victoria and Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Mr McMullin has served on the Melbourne Recital Centre board since 2021 and succeeds Emeritus Professor Andrea Hull AO, who has held the position for the past 6 years.
