What was your experience participating in the 2018 Diversity in Ag Leadership Program?

I really enjoyed the mentoring aspects of the program, meeting the other participants from throughout Australia and participating in the NFF National Congress in Canberra during October.

The Program is well structured and was flexible enough to be tailored to my needs. There was great ongoing support from the NFF team and program partners. It is a fantastic way to grow personally, as well as expanding networks, cross-sectorally in agriculture.

If the definition of luck is 'preparation meeting opportunity', then the Diversity in Agriculture Leadership Program another positive step towards setting yourself up for success and creating tangible outcomes.

How has your life and career in Agriculture changed since participating in the Program?

I completed a PhD in Viticulture and plant protection, and continue to run my agribusiness consulting company Retallack Viticulture.

I was reappointed to the board of Wine Australia and appointed to the Strategic Investment Council of the Food Agility CRC.

I continue to myself mentor individuals both formally and informally, and focus on my professional interests in environmental stewardship, agroecology and functional biodiversity enhancement.

I am always looking for opportunities to contribute to the direction of agriculture and build resilience in production systems.

What advice would you give to the 2019 cohort?

It is important for women to be seen and heard.

I encourage all women who would like to take the next step to back themselves and apply.

I highly recommend the Diversity in Agriculture's Leadership program. You will get out of the program what you put in, plus much more.

Being part of the Program's Alumni is the next exciting step in store. The NFF are helping to create meaningful change to accelerate diversity at the decision making table.

The lack of diversity in ag leadership isn't a women only problem. I encourage everyone to get involved. Everyone benefits.

To take advantage of this life changing opportunity apply for the Program before Monday 1 April 2019!
