Moreland Council will conduct a safety audit of the Merri Creek corridor.
The assessment will seek to be done in partnership with stakeholders including the Victoria Police, the Merri Creek Management Committee and other partners to understand safety improvements that can be made to the corridor.
Council has always acted in the interests of community safety and in recent years has worked to reduce opportunities for crime in Moreland including:
- a municipal-wide $4 million upgrade of street lights to brighter LEDs;
- improvement of activity centre streetscapes using ‘crime prevention through environment design’ principles (CPTED); and
- partnering with Monash University’s XYX Lab (experts in gender sensitive design practices and theory) to strengthen Council’s ability to ensure services and community infrastructure deliver safety, inclusiveness and a reduction of crime against women.
A report will be prepared recommending preliminary findings and future actions.
