Message from Clerk on first day of Ramadan

From: Privy Council Office

Statement

May 5, 2019

This is the first day of the month of Ramadan, observed by Muslims around the world, until June 5. In addition to increased acts of charity and personal reflection, Ramadan is marked by daily fasting from dawn to sunset. I have great respect for the personal discipline and restraint that marks this time for Muslims.

It can be a time of discovery and friendship for non-Muslims to get to know more about Ramadan. And we can grow in our appreciation for our Muslim colleagues as we realize how their self-discipline and devotion gets them through a full day of professional duties as public servants, while performing the fast for a full month!

Ramadan Mubarak!

Ian Shugart

Clerk of the Privy Council and Secretary to the Cabinet
