Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC
Governor of New South Wales
Dennis and I are deeply concerned about the impacts of the floods in Kempsey and the surrounding areas. I have been in touch with your mayor to express our support to her, the council and your courageous and wonderfully connected community.
I am aware that the CBD is still under water and that many parts of the community have been isolated. Your mayor spoke not only of the loss of property and possessions but also of the trauma and anxiety that your community is experiencing, not knowing how and when relief will be available.
Having visited Kempsey and heard your stories, hopes and vision, I know that there is a deep strength in the community. I also know that you will need every ounce of that strength to get you through what is one of the worse floods in your history.
I want to say thank you to everyone in the community. I know that you are looking out for your neighbours whenever you can and will continue to do so as you move into a recovery phase, which will bring its own challenges.
I also want to acknowledge the work of the volunteers in the emergency services, who have responded to this current disaster, as they always do, with courage and compassion.
Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC
