The Australian Government Chief Medical Officer, Professor Paul Kelly, declared Metropolitan Adelaide a COVID-19 hotspot for the purposes of Commonwealth support from 11:59pm on 20 July 2021. This was for an initial period of seven days, with a review on or before 27 July 2021.
Yesterday, the South Australian Government announced easing of restrictions for South Australia. The majority of recent cases have been in known contacts who are already in quarantine or isolating, alongside tens of thousands of negative tests. With this reassuring situation, the Acting Chief Medical Officer Professor Michael Kidd has decided to lift the declaration of Metropolitan Adelaide as a hotspot from 11:59pm on 27 July 2021.
Public health measures will remain as per the South Australian Health advice, such as masks will be required in high risk settings, businesses will be limited to one person per four square metres and gathering restrictions to help prevent ongoing community transmission.
