The next step in the delivery of MidCoast Council's State-mandated Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) requirements is underway with the proposed facility currently on public exhibition by the NSW Department of Planning.
The proposal for a state of the art FOGO processing facility near the Tuncurry Waste Management Centre is being assessed as a State Significant Development. The application has been submitted to the planning authority by NALG Envirotech Pty Ltd who have been contracted to MidCoast Council to deliver the FOGO service.
This innovative facility will process up to 146,000 tonnes of organic waste annually in its first stage and will generate renewable energy equivalent to powering 1,300 homes, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and earn valuable carbon credits.
The facility will support MidCoast Council's compliance with the State Government mandate to deliver FOGO services to the community by 2030.
